Dr. Daniel Briscoe
Dr. Daniel Briscoe is Ophthalmology Department Chairman at Emek Hospital in Northern
Israel, and a member of Technion Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Briscoe runs one of the largest
Oculoplastic and Orbital surgical services in Israel. He was Head of the Israeli Society of
Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery twice, and has trained Ophthalmologists in
Oculoplastic Surgery from countries including Greece, Burma, Turkey, and China. Dr Briscoe
serves on the International Taskforce Committee for an ICO Oculoplastics Subspecialty
Curriculum, and the Israeli Scientific Council Board for Professional Examinations.
Dr. Miguel Gonzalez-Candial
He became a Fellow in Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye
Institute, University of California Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.) in 2000. In 2001, he returned to Spain
and was appointed Orbital and Oculoplastic Surgeon at the Instituto de Microcirurgia Ocular
(I.M.O.) and at the Hospital General de Catalunya, in Barcelona. He is an active member of The
European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Society of
Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Spanish Society of Ophthalmology and the
American Academy of Ophthalmology. Member of editorial board of Orbit, he gives lectures
and conferences as invited speaker at medical institutions and congresses worldwide, and has
contributed in textbooks and published medical papers in the leading journals of the specialty.
He trains fellows in orbital and ophthalmic plastic and cosmetic surgery since 2002. He has an
academic private practice specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive orbitofacial surgery and
tumors. Research interests include eyelid reconstruction, lacrimal surgery, thyroid orbitopathy
and small-incision aesthetic orbitofacial rejuvenation.
Dr. Serge Morax
Honorary Chief of Oculoplastic Surgery Department, Foundation Ophthalmic A. de
Rothschild, Paris, France and president of the Medical Commission of the Ophthalmic
Foundation A. de Rothschild since 2002, he is an Ophthalmologist with abilities in both
Maxillofacial surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a founding member of the
European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has been its president
between 1997 and 1998. Since 1976 he has been in charge of Orbito-Palpebral pathology
teaching which led him to develop the department of Oculoplastic Surgery at the Foundation
Ophthalmic A. de Rothschild, to write 10 teaching books in English and French, to publish over
145 papers, to give over 200 lectures in 70 foreign countries. He is member of the editorial
board in multiple scientific publications.
Dr. David Verity
Dr. Verity is a full-time Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in
London and he specialises in the management of eyelid, lacrimal and orbital disorders . His
qualifications include an undergraduate medical training at Oxford, a research degree in
immunogenetics in London, and ophthalmic and advanced subspecialty training in the Thames
region, including Moorfields Eye Hospital. Mr Verity’s areas of clinical expertise encompass a
wide variety of oculoplastic disease, these including all lid, lacrimal, orbital and socket
disorders, thyroid eye disease, and eyelid and conjunctival reconstruction where there is a risk
of ocular exposure. In addition to his clinical practice, he publishes widely in his field, trains
ophthalmic doctors, and lectures regularly on oculoplastic disease in the UK and abroad. He is )
Editor-in- chief for ORBIT Journal, Treasurer at the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and
member of ESOPRS.
Dr. George Charonis
Dr. George Charonis was born in Syracuse, New York and was raised in Athens, Greece. He
graduated from the National University of Athens (MD) and did postgraduate studies in the
United States (Baltimore General Surgery, MD, Ophthalmology Residency in Louisville, KY,
Orbitofacial Surgery Fellowship at UCLA’s Jules Stein Ophthalmology Institute) . He is a
diplomat of the American Council of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive
Surgery. He works in Athens, where he founded the Athens Vision Eye Institute and is
Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is the president of the Greek Society of Ophthalmic
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the organizer of the last European meeting of the
European Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has participated in many
national and international meetings as a guest lecturer. His professional interests include
periorbital rejuvenation, surgical rehabilitation for thyroid orbitopathy and lacrimal surgery.
